David Pugh is right to say that we whole-heartedly oppose his plans. But he's wrong to say that we didn't take part in his consultation process.
We did take part, and we told him repeatedly that the PRCA would not support his proposals. We oppose them because we believe they have no basis in law, and are fundamentally unfair. That is why we have intervened in the Copyright Tribunal case.
If David chose to ignore our position, then that was his mistake. In the nine meetings we had over the past eighteen months, he was left in no doubt of our view. To suggest otherwise is frankly bizarre.
If this deeply flawed 'consultation' process proves anything, it is that the NLA is incapable of listening to people -the only thing it excels at is sending out invoices. And that's the heart of the problem really.
As for us, we make no apology whatsoever for standing up for the PR industry. As the name PRCA implies, that's our job.
