MG Seigler over at the TechCrunch blog wrote an article about how the UK press 'manipulated' Ivy Bean into becoming the centre of a news story around the world's oldest Twitter user. Looking at the story from a PR person's point of view I would be interested in understanding what the problem with 'manipulation' was.

Secondly, a quick Google and Twitter search indicated that the story is likely to have been done by Geek Squad UK to promote their technical services. As a PR story, it is well-crafted and got people talking. It is classic news 'man bites dog': the unusual happening in the everyday. Congratulations to the team involved. If this story is something to be guilty of, as Seigler's post implies then call me a serial offender.
